Army Intensifies Campaign Against Banditry in Northwest, Warrah Declares.
The Nigerian Army has renewed its focus on eradicating banditry in the Northwest, Major General Idris Warrah, Theater Commander of Sector 2, Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma, has said. Speaking on Wednesday at the 8 Division headquarters in Sokoto, General Warrah emphasized the importance of professional competence, discipline, and adherence to orders in strengthening operational intensity against bandits. “Professional competence, discipline and regimentation would be driven by strict adherence and respect of orders and superiors,” he stated. The Theater Commander told troops the Army was “not set to dance nor party with bandits” but would enhance its operational capacity through proper regimentation and discipline. He urged soldiers to “prepare your minds psychologically and brace to the task of sustaining the tempo to achieve the desired success.” In the course of his familiarization tour, General Warrah, alongside Major General Ibikunle Ajose, GOC 8 Division Sokoto, inspected sector and sub-sector units, including the Illela 248 Recce Battalion. He commended troops for clearing critical bandit areas, neutralizing some bandits, and recovering weapons. “Your professional resilience, discipline and respect are the foundation and bedrock upon which the military was built,” he told the soldiers, noting the duty of the armed forces to ensure civilian safety and restore peace in the Northwest and across Nigeria. He also assured injured personnel that the Army would take care of them and encouraged them to convey appreciation to their families for supporting their resilience during operations.
