FG Bars Admission and Transfer into SS3 from 2026 27 Session
The Federal Government has drawn a firm line in the sand over senior secondary school admissions, announcing a nationwide ban on the admission or transfer of students into Senior Secondary School Three, SS3, beginning from the 2026 27 academic session. The directive, which applies to both public and private secondary schools, was made public in a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade. It comes amid rising anxiety within government circles over the integrity of public examinations and the quiet industry built around last minute school transfers. According to the ministry, only admissions and transfers into Senior Secondary School One and Senior Secondary School Two will be allowed going forward. Movement into SS3, often linked to the search for favourable examination conditions, will be prohibited without exception. The government said the decision followed persistent reports of examination malpractice, including the use of so called special centres during external examinations. Officials noted that the practice has steadily eroded confidence in the education system and undermined years of academic work. By shutting the door at SS3, the ministry believes schools will be better positioned to monitor students properly, ensure continuity in learning, and discourage the clustering of candidates solely for examination purposes. School owners, principals and administrators have been directed to comply strictly with the new policy. The ministry warned that any violation would attract sanctions under existing education regulations. In closing, the Federal Government restated its commitment to restoring credibility to Nigeria’s education system, insisting that fairness, discipline and academic standards must once again define public examinations across the country.
