Delta Police Arrest Seven, Seize Firearms, Ammunition and Drugs in Major Operations
The Delta State Police Command has reported significant successes following a series of coordinated security operations across the state. Seven suspects were arrested, and a cache of firearms, over 150 rounds of ammunition, cash and illicit drugs were recovered, the Command said on Tuesday. Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, announced the achievements during a press briefing in Asaba, outlining key outcomes since his assumption of office. He said the operations were intelligence-driven and carried out by the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), the Quick Response Squad and Area Command operatives, targeting kidnapping, illegal arms trafficking and drug offences. In one major operation, a suspected inter-state kidnapper, linked to crimes in Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers States, was arrested. Police recovered an AK-47 rifle, a K-2 rifle, a pump-action gun, magazines and more than 150 rounds of live ammunition hidden at different locations in Bayelsa and along the Ughelli-Warri axis. Separately, along the Ughelli-Patani Road, operatives seized a K-2 rifle, locally fabricated firearms and ammunition while investigations continue to apprehend other suspects connected to the case. The Command also disrupted an illegal arms transaction in Ughelli, arresting three suspects and recovering a pump-action gun and N280,000 believed to be part payment for the weapon. In operations targeting drug offences, suspected dealers were arrested during raids in Sapele, Warri and along the Sapele-Warri Road. Quantities of suspected illicit drugs were recovered and investigations are ongoing. CP Adesola emphasised the Delta Police’s commitment to intelligence-led operations aimed at reducing crime and ensuring public safety. He urged residents to provide credible information to security agencies and advised parents to closely monitor their wards to prevent involvement in criminal activities.
