Delta Police Break Up Armed Gang as AK47 Rifle is Recovered in Oghara
A fresh wave of arrests has tightened the hold of the Delta State Police Command on a criminal network suspected of terrorizing Oghara and neighboring communities, following an operation that led to the recovery of an AK47 rifle fitted with a double magazine. The breakthrough, confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer Bright Edafe, stems from a series of coordinated actions by the CP Special Assignment Team, a unit led by ASP Julius Robinson and known for its relentless pursuit of armed groups in the area. The team had earlier made inroads on twenty fourth November, when confessed cult members were detained and a pump action gun seized. That operation set the tone for what unfolded next. Acting on intelligence that suggested the network was regrouping, officers intensified surveillance across Oghara. The follow up raids came swiftly on twenty fifth November. They resulted in the arrest of two men described by investigators as strong links in the chain: thirty eight year old Justice Ikutu and fifty five year old Peter Okomeje. Both were picked up at different hot spots in the town, places long whispered about by residents but rarely caught in the full glare of police attention. The trail then led officers to the residence of another suspect, identified as Peter Kome. A quiet search inside the house turned into a significant find as operatives uncovered an AK47 rifle locked with a double magazine, along with other items tied to the continuing investigation into robbery and cult related violence in the region. The weapon, a grim marker of the gang’s capacity, was removed with care as the search widened. All three suspects remain in police custody, and operatives are said to be closing in on more individuals believed to be connected to the syndicate. Edafe, speaking in his capacity as the Command’s spokesperson, praised the diligence of the officers involved and described the arrests as evidence of the Command’s determination to break the influence of criminal groups operating in the state. He urged residents to maintain their vigilance and to keep sharing credible information, stressing that the safety of Oghara and its environs depends on the steady partnership between the police and the communities they serve. The operation, carried out in quick succession over two days, has stirred a sense of watchful calm in the town, as residents await further developments in a case that continues to unfurl with quiet urgency.
