Suspend France Retreat, Return Home To Address Insecurity, Obi Urges President Tinubu

Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has issued a strong appeal to President Bola Tinubu to immediately suspend his retreat in France and return to Nigeria to address the growing wave of insecurity across the country. In a public statement on X (formerly Twitter) titled “Mr. President, Domestic Problems Beacons,” Obi decried the increasing spate of killings, abductions, and violent crimes in various regions of Nigeria, calling the current state of affairs an “apparent absence of governance.” “In the two weeks you have been away, over 150 Nigerians have lost their lives to insecurity, especially in Plateau and Zamfara states,” Obi noted, adding that repeated pipeline explosions in the Niger Delta and the resurgence of insurgency in Borno State reflect a nation in deep crisis. He also highlighted the grim situation in the South East, where abductions and extrajudicial killings persist, stressing that no region has been spared from the insecurity sweeping across the country. “The CEO of the troubling company called Nigeria is retreating in a far away land in France from the Company’s headquarters,” Obi said pointedly, questioning the relevance of conducting a presidential retreat in a country like France, where peace has already been achieved through effective governance. He emphasised that the most urgent and sacred responsibility of any government is the protection of lives and property, and the current administration must prioritise this duty above all else. Obi stressed that the fight for a better Nigeria is not about political ambition or individual accolades, but about building a nation where every citizen can live in peace and benefit from effective leadership. “I, therefore, urge Mr. President to quickly suspend whatever he is doing in France and rush home to take responsibility by addressing these disturbing issues. That is the new Nigeria that the nation seeks,” he said.
