Amaechi Declares Tinubu ‘Defeatable’ Ahead of 2027 Race

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is “defeat-able” in the forthcoming 2027 presidential election — a statement that has set political tongues wagging and revived debates about the viability of opposition alliances. Speaking at a recent event covered by The Punch, Amaechi said he was prepared to take on the incumbent should he secure the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). “Tinubu is defeatable,” he said plainly. “If I get the ADC ticket, I’ll defeat him.” Amaechi, who once served as Director-General of Tinubu’s campaign rival, President Muhammadu Buhari, in 2015 and 2019, hinted that his insider knowledge of Nigeria’s political machinery gives him an edge. “I know how the game is played, and I know what Nigerians truly want now: honest leadership and accountability,” he stated. He also pledged a sweeping reform of the nation’s constitutional structure. “We must move away from this divisive system of indigeneship to one of true citizenship,” he added. “Every Nigerian deserves equal access to opportunity.” Amaechi vowed to resign within a month of assuming office if he fails to tackle corruption head-on. Political observers say his bold tone may signal a larger realignment within the political landscape, particularly among disenchanted factions of the ruling party and emerging movements eager to reshape Nigeria’s leadership narrative. For many, Amaechi’s declaration has transformed what was expected to be a routine pr-election season into a contest of ambition, strategy, and political survival.
