Okpebholo Raises Edo Workers’ Minimum Wage to N75,000
In a significant move to improve workers’ welfare, Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has announced an increase in the state’s minimum wage from N70,000 to N75,000. The announcement, made during May Day celebrations at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, underscores the state government’s commitment to enhancing living standards for its workforce. Addressing workers and labour leaders, the governor highlighted that the revised wage reflects the administration’s resolve to support resilience, hard work, and productivity among civil servants. The initiative also comes alongside other policy measures, including the recruitment of over 3,000 casual teachers, regularization of hospital staff, and improvements in the judicial and education sectors. The acting chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Edo State, Comrade Bernard Egwehka, welcomed the decision, describing it as timely and impactful, noting that workers had already begun to feel the positive effects of the administration’s welfare initiatives.
