Oborevwori Commissions New Housing in Okuama, Signals Renewed Push to Restore Crisis-Hit Communities
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, yesterday, commissioned a cluster of housing units and supporting infrastructure in Okuama, Ughelli South Local Government Area, reinforcing his administration’s drive to rebuild communities affected by recent unrest in Delta State. The governor, represented by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, said the project was conceived as a strategic response to the displacement that followed the March 2024 crisis. He noted that the new homes provide safe and modern accommodation for affected families, adding that the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to delivering durable development under the MORE Agenda. Onyeme commended the contractors, the Ministry of Housing, and the Ughelli South local authorities for what he described as their disciplined execution of the project. He stressed the administration’s insistence on transparency and timely completion of all public works, saying no approved project would be left abandoned. He also pointed to ongoing interventions across Delta, including new schools, primary healthcare centers, and resettlement facilities, which he said form part of a broader effort to restore stability in communities recovering from conflict. According to him, the Okuama project underscores government’s resolve to ensure that all parts of the state benefit from tangible improvements in infrastructure and governance.
