CP Aina Adesola Takes Over as Delta State Police Commissioner
Asaba – The Delta State Police Command has a new leader. CP Aina Adesola has officially assumed duty as the 23rd Commissioner of Police, taking over from AIG Olufemi Abaniwonda, who has been promoted and posted to the Force Headquarters in Abuja as Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Department of Operations. Born on 2 September 1968 in Abeokuta South, Ogun State, CP Adesola holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Ondo State University. He joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1994 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and attended the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State. His first posting was in Delta State in 1996, serving in Ogwashi-Uku. CP Adesola has served in several key roles, including Divisional Police Officer at Aswani Division, OC Homicide in Edo State, OC X-Squad in Lagos, and Assistant Commissioner of Police in Abia State. He has also held leadership roles at the Police Training School in Oyin-Akoko, and served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in Rivers and Delta States. Before his posting to Delta State, he was Deputy Commandant at the Police College in Ikeja, Lagos. The new Commissioner has completed multiple leadership and specialised courses, including programmes on community policing, tactical command, and international law enforcement in the United States and Botswana. Known for his discipline, humility, and community-oriented approach, he enjoys reading, travelling, and football. He is married with children. At the handover ceremony, CP Adesola pledged to strengthen security across Delta State, urging residents to continue supporting the police and advising youths to resist criminal influence. He promised that the command would remain firm, professional, and proactive in tackling crime. Outgoing Commissioner AIG Abaniwonda thanked the Delta State Government and residents for their support during his tenure, asking that they extend the same cooperation to his successor. The change in leadership signals a continued focus on proactive and community-based policing across the state.
