Delta State First Lady Launches 2025 Sixteen Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence
The First Lady of Delta State, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, yesterday officially launched the 2025 Sixteen Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence in Asaba, calling for decisive action to end abuse and protect women and girls. Addressing attendees, Deaconess Oborevwori spoke strongly against the culture of silence that allows offenders to escape justice. She described unreported cases, particularly those affecting young girls, as “heartbreaking” and urged mothers, guardians and community leaders to report all incidents to the proper authorities. Highlighting the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, the First Lady commended its efforts in advocacy, support for survivors, and collaboration with security agencies to strengthen reporting channels. She also announced a ₦10 million support fund to enhance the campaign’s outreach and impact. The campaign, which will run for sixteen days, aims to raise awareness, provide support for survivors, and promote community action against gender-based violence, including the rising threat of digital abuse targeting women and girls.
